Holidays

Birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving and all the holidays are especially hard during deployments.  We tried to make it the best we could.  Our birthday traditions are to get up early singing Happy Birthday and open family gifts then.  We would try (sometimes it worked sometimes it didn't) and have my husband call via the internet (Skype, Yahoo, ect.) and we would video chat.  This way was he was "there" for singing of the birthday song and opening of family presents.  It was fun and helped Daddy feel apart of things and helped the kids feel like Daddy was really there.

We'd try again for the other holidays.  They were harder but we'd make the effort.  Sometimes we'd put the computer on the dinner table and Daddy would "have" dinner with us, or lunch or breakfast, whatever meal we were having when he was able to call.

Using the webcam to make things seem almost ordinary changed the way we would feel for just a little while, for just a few minutes.  My husband was able to feel apart of the family and the kids were able to chat with Daddy in an almost "normal" way.

Have a blessed day!
Dont' forget to check out my book!
